Dr. Valerie Taylor-Haslip is the Chairperson of the Department of Nursing. She earned a BS degree in Registered Nursing from Howard University in Washington, DC; a MS degree in Nursing with a specialty in nursing education from Lehman College in Bronx, NY; a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) post-master’s certification from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY and a Ph.D. in Nursing Research from the CUNY Graduate Center in New York, NY. Dr. Taylor-Haslip served as an active duty member of the United States Air Force Nurse Corps and the United States Air Force Reserve Nurse Corp in the rank of Captain. Her roles included Staff Nurse, Senior Nurse, Flight Nurse, and Officer in Charge (OIC) of Enlisted Specialty Training. She earned both the USAF Commendation Medal and Senior Nurse Medal.

Post-Doctor by Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics of UFRJ. PhD in Sciences in the area of Nursing and Biosciences by the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Master's Degree in Nursing. Nurse Specialist and Researcher in the following areas: Estomal Therapy, Cardiology, Music Therapy, Intensive Care and Oncology. Member of Oncology Nursing Socety. Currently holds the position of Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Campus Macaé, in the Department of Fundamentals of Nursing Care.

Nursing, Biosciences

Dr. Metcalfe is an Associate Professor at Western Carolina University in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. Previous academic appointments have been as Interim Director of Nursing and also as the Dean of Nursing for a private college. She has been an educational grants researcher with colleges and hospitals. Currently, she is serving on the Board of the North Carolina Nursing Association Foundation.

Her research agenda is on global leadership development and mentoring transformational nurse leaders. She has been serving as the Program Director of the NN-CAT Program (Nursing Network-Careers and Technology), a national program that provides scholarships, stipends, and personal mentors to underrepresented ethnic minority students.

Associate Professor Elisabeth Jacob is currently the Associate Dean (Nursing) at ECU. She practiced as a registered nurse for over 20 years in both rural and metropolitan hospitals. She completed her PhD through Monash University in 2014. She has published more than 30 papers in reputed journals. Elisabeth’s research interests include: development of the nursing workforce; skill mix and its effect on patient outcome.

Beth Harkness has over a decade of experience providing clinical care and disease management to the pediatric and adult cystic fibrosis population and managing cystic fibrosis research at Children's National in Washington, DC, USA.

Her special area of interest focuses on the diagnosis of cystic fibrosis disease and connections to care for the population affected with this genetic disease. In 2009 Beth conceptualized and implemented a program for the advancement of Genetic/Genomic awareness and education at Children's National and now works in collaboration with National Institute of Health (NIH) on Methods for Introducing New Competencies (MINC) in nursing.

Mrs Diana Taylor is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with 30 years clinical experience in acute care and outpatient settings. For the past 7 years she been working in acute and chronic pain management at Nepean Hospital, NSW Australia (a tertiary teaching facility), where she has been actively involved in quality initiatives, teaching and leadership roles. Since 2016 Diana has been Project Co-ordinator for the “Murrumbidgee Project”, developing and implementing chronic pain services in rural and remote New South Wales, Australia

Marica G. Estrada is working as an Assistant Professor in University of Santo Tomas, Espana, Manila, Philippines. Her speciality includes Educational Development , Maternal and Child Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Nursing Research, UNICEF-ADPCN EINC National Trainor, PACUCOA Accreditor. Marica G. Estrada serves as a Dean’s Faculty Council Member Student and Development Welfare Board Member Chairperson- Career Planning and Development for Students. Her research involvement includes UST CON Research Board Consultant, Editorial Board Member of international journals, numerous research publications

She is a nurse lecturer in the Department of Nursing WIT working on the General Nursing Team. Dual qualified nurse in both general and childrens nursing. She recieved an honours degree in nursing from Trinity College Dublin, Masters degree from University of Manchester and PhD from University of Salford Manchester. Her PhD study was on the topic "Exploring empowerment in clinical practice amongst fourth year undergraduate nursing students".

Clinical Practice and Nursing

Dr. Anson Tang is currently an Assistant Professor at Tung Wah College of Hong Kong. She has been working in the field for over 10 years and has enormous experience in teaching various nursing programmes in hospitals and tertiary institutions. She is also the programme leader of the baccalaureate nursing programme at the College and has been involving in various Programme accreditation exercises. Her recent research interest is nursing education especially on innovative teaching and learning methods.
